Senetas, the world’s leading manufacturer of high speed network encryption, today called on Australia’s Federal and State governments to implement rigorous infrastructure security programs to protect critical assets and information.


Senetas, which already protects a range of critical government information networks with its accredited high speed network encryption technology, said it was common knowledge that not all government information networks around Australia were encrypted.


Senetas had brought to the attention of current and previous Federal governments as well as some State administrations, that their fibre optic networks were distributing information ‘in the clear’ and were thus susceptible to being tapped by simple devices readily available on the Internet.

“Senetas engineers made a video demonstrating the vulnerability of fibre networks and we have provided copies of this video together with a briefing to politicians and bureaucrats over the past two years. While there has been some recognition of the problem, we need all levels of Government to work together to de-risk Australia’s network communications.

“Also, since many major infrastructure facilities are privately-owned, the corporate directors of energy, water, transport, banking and communications enterprises should be required to report any cyber attacks until they install approved network security for the links that control and command the nation’s resources.

“Encryption is a globally-proven method of quickly and robustly securing information as it travels through cyberspace. Our CypherNet technology eliminates the possibility that information stolen online can be used because it is immediately rendered unintelligible, protected by globally-accredited algorithms that would take up to 149 trillion years to crack,” Mr DuBois said.
