Today, we announced the signing of a nickel supply agreement and a long-term collaboration with Tesla Inc. This is a significant milestone for BHP and Nickel West. The agreement includes the supply of nickel, enhanced end-to-end raw materials traceability using blockchain, as well as the study of energy storage solutions and technical exchange for battery raw materials production. Tesla Inc. is the world’s largest manufacturer of electric vehicles and battery storage systems with a mission to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy. Our Nickel West asset produces some of the lowest carbon intensity nickel and has the potential to be the largest sustainable battery suitable nickel producer in the world. Tesla Inc.’s decision to partner with BHP is a testimony of their confidence in us as a reliable and sustainable Nickel producer, and our ability to work with them to identify opportunities to lower carbon emissions in our respective operations through increased use of renewable energy paired with battery storage. Through this collaboration, we will increase the sustainability of the battery supply chain, grow the global EV market and ultimately contribute towards helping the world achieve net zero emissions at our operations.
