I wonder is there much of a future for nickel pig iron now that smaller blast furnaces have been banned and there are moves afoot to condemn any smaller than 400tonnes capacity.

Larger furnaces require considerable cash investment- and while prices are below $35000US/tonne there will be reluctance to make such an investment. Its well known that blast furnaces will be one of the first things banned when China makes even a token effort to control greenhouse gases.
