With the US$ 10 million worth of damage created by protesters of the huge Inco Nickle resource in New Caledonia the nickle market is getting nervous.
The near-$2 billion project has previously been flagged to produce around 60,000t of nickel and 5000t of cobalt annually from late 2007 with an arson attack a couple of days ago things are not looking good on this island.
Is the mine really going to open by late 2007????
Watch the nickle price increase if more disruptions are going to follow.
The Kanaki people, being melanesians like their counter parts in Bouganville mean bussiness if they do not agree with something.
I believe Inco should take the time to talk to them and come to an agreement otherwise they will probably have many more problems in the future and the mine will be further delayed or has the same fate as Bouganville imho.
