Possible underlying reason for the recent sp fall?
CHEYENNE: The first official production figures are in from the oil boom in southeastern Wyoming, and while solid, they don?t measure up to other major oil-producing regions.
According to the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, SM Energy Company's well 12 miles northeast of Cheyenne is producing 300 barrels of oil a day. That is less than the best producing wells in the prolific Bakken Shale in North Dakota, but does exceed the output from older wells in that region of Wyoming.
The well produced nearly 50,000 barrels from January through July of this year, but that information remained confidential until now at the request of SM Energy. The company suffered bad publicity a couple of weeks ago when the same well sprayed oil over 15 acres of ranchland.
Dozens more energy companies are preparing to explore for oil in the area.
