While in Tokyo, Mr Gunner also met with representatives from Nissui, the Japanese food company with a 15 per cent stake in Seafarms. The company is expected to make a final investment decision about its planned $1.5 billion Project Sea Dragon prawn farm at Legune Station on the WA border next year.Mr Gunner said Nissui expressed interest in growing food, including edamame beans, near Katherine.“Nissui is a very big player on the world stage in aquaculture but they’re also very interested in agriculture,” he said.In the meeting, Mr Gunner put forward the case for Seafarms to export the prawns through Darwin.Seafarms is yet to decide whether to export through Darwin or Wyndham in WA.Although a final investment decision is yet to be made about the future of Project Seadragon, Mr Gunner said Nissui was looking “well beyond” that milestone.“They see it as a question of when, not if. They’re actively making plans around the distribution of the prawns,” he said.
