When I was being treated for burns I developed an allergy to morphine. The pains specialiast then put me onto laughing gas. A couple of puffs and I was right.Nitrous oxide (dinitrogen oxide or dinitrogen monoxide), commonly known aslaughinggas, nitrous, nitro, or nos, is a chemical compound, an oxide of nitrogen with theformulaN 2 O. At room temperature, it is a colourless non-flammablegas, and has a slightly sweet scent and taste.
There was a sister in charge of the ward that gave me a hard time. She took away the gas and gave me morphine prior to a change of dressings. I ended up vomiting all over her head as she was working on me. After that I was allowed the gas whenever I wanted it. Old fashioned anesthetic but still the best and safest in my book.
It's not a cure for a problem but it does control pain and has less chance of an addiction that most pain killers can cause.
