It is the platinum juniors with projects due to yield over a period of years that are exuding the confidence at a time when the platinum majors are down at the mouth. TSX-listed Platinum Group Metals (PTM) has also rubbed the majors’ noses in their being too deep and no longer cheap. Platinum’s bleak short-term outlook has also not stopped ASX start-up Nkwe from informing the its Australian shareholders that there is no holding back on the the Garatau platinum mine on the eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex and that it will be in production in 2015. “It’s not doom and gloom from where we sit. It’s back to basics – grade, thickness, shallowness,” says PTM CEO MikeJones, who adds that the Asian growth story is “more important than Europe’s muddle”.
