A tad confusing (for me anyway). But a very worthwhile conversation. I got a response from my accountant this morning and I now agree with you again :-) This is what she had to say:
"The options and shares are two seperate assets
This means that if you sell the option before converrting them to shares, you will receive the 50% discount if you have kept it for 12 months.
However, if you convert the option to shares, you will have to keep the shares for a further 12 months to receive the 50% discount for the shares."
