Many people in retirement and others require an income from their investment to be able to maintain their holding. Regular dividend payments will encourage expansion of the shareholder base and also encourage investors to hold their shares rather than seeking opportunities elsewhere while waiting for share price growth. The effect of having more demand may lift the interim share price while waiting for projects to mature.
