the two police officers approached Walker as they would any other non-Aboriginal person and had no intention of harming him, regardless of his aggression. they managed the attack with the axe without resorting to tit-for-tat violence and had planned his arrest for two days later than the approach which included Rolfe.
the axe "attack" didn't result in injuries to anyone. and Walker ran away as soon as he was able - he was truly only trying to get away rather than resist arrest according to Const. Eberl.
Even the fact that Rolfe shot Walker while, according to Rolfe's evidence, Eberl was wrestling with Walker really demands scrutiny. As I understand use of firearms, if two people are moving violently, its very difficult to be certain you won't harm your colleague. therefore its likely that Eberl and Walker weren't wrestling at all but were lying relatively still for Rolfe to be sure he wouldn't hit his colleague.
if it was a white kid, a Chinese kid or even a Russian kid I would hope and expect police to behave the same in each instance. How many white boys are killed in the similar manner? and in answering please don't resort to simplistic total numbers, as @Justace has done above, but use proportionate data relating to each population size
