    Yes, you can claim the capital loss; contact ATO and have it confirmed on the basis that your shares are unmarketable and valueless and unsaleable. Similar to an amortisation at 100%.

    Then if later there is any value attributed to them (listing, buy-back) 100% of that value would be treated as capital gain on conversion.
