"Qld ALP urged to change uranium mining policy Summit Resources will make a submission in favour of uranium mining to the Labor Party's national conference in February 2007.
The mining company is pushing for a change in policy so development of its stalled Valhalla uranium mine near Mount Isa, in north-west Queensland, can proceed.
Exploration manager Peter Roley says the only barrier to the mine's progress is ALP policy.
"If the federal Labor Party convention, which is held in February 2007, changes the policy of the Labor Party, we have strong indications that the union movement will support then a change in the state Labor Party policy towards uranium mining," he said.
"So the earliest opportunity we see is in the first quarter of 2007 for a go-ahead."
