Yes this has also surprised me in the past (few years) given how KAR has traded. Perhaps WPL don't see any value in Santos assets/ aren't as interested in the undrilled deep water stuff. I had thought they were keen on assets in the region but perhaps they don't want anything that is not 2P? As you say they could easily wrap up a big stake of KAR (if not an outright t/o) on the cheap.
