Swinburn study? The same study where the results have yet to be released to the market so investors can actually appraise them? All that has been released is prosaic spin and comments from the scientists who were paid to do the research. No issue with their credibility or research integrity, just that when money is involved people (even scientists) have been known to talk up the results a bit too much. If you doubt me, look at the comments from December 13, 2005, of MBP’s scientific advisory board after the release of their first phase II obesity trial over 2 years back talking it up big time when the market saw it for a crock and their repeat study proved this. Only SLA releasing these results will prove if they are being up front, until then there is a big question mark over this study.

Ah, the 2500 docs at the international conference. Have yet to see SLA actually release a copy of the presentation they gave. Most biotechs I follow actually release a copy of their conference presentations to the market for investors to view so still have yet to see their ‘overwhelming data’ that Ropren treats liver disease – what are they hiding? In fact, Vag only presented at a satellite symposium, hardly a keynote speaker with all 2500 attendees present. What about the glowing letter from the conference organisers? What, the letter that was actually a paid testimonial (yes, SLA forget to mention that little bit of information in their release) from reputable doctors to talk things up a bit more than warranted to help the Ropren approval process along.

Who says Vag is one of the most respected scientists in Russia? Most of this spin comes from self-promotional material from the man himself. I can assure you that in the medical and scientific community in Melbourne he is consider a quack and a charlatan because of the voodoo witchdoctor magic he practices at his clinic and the worthless and ineffective treatments he sells such as ‘detox’ plans (completely debunked as having any special properties) and homeopathy (if you believe in that then you believe in the Easter Bunny, but don’t take my word for it take the dozens and dozens of randomised placebo controlled trials that have exposed it for what it is) and of course the highlight – aura photography to diagnose disease.

As for the Board, apart from Vag who at least has a background in medicine/biological science - who else on the Board has any expertise by virtue of a background in medicine, biological sciences or running clinical trials and doing numbering crunching and statistical analysis of results so material can be vetted and informed comment can be made to investors? You don't need a board full of scientists as also need finance and other corporate types, but one person more than Vag is needed to give the company SOME credibility. Don't bother bringing up Dennis' name - he is an engineer by training and spent the last 20 years in corporate consulting - yet he is the chief spruiker for BioEffectives yet has no biological science or research expertise in appraising the stuff he is flogging. Surely the blind leading the blind when investors take his word as fact.
