Can I assume that this QLD Government will condone the continued method of coal production as an ongoing concern. That its OK to pump billions of tons of SO2 and NO2 and CO2 into the atmosphere (only 160metres up) so that it can rain down on all of us at will.....
That its ok to store all the waste products of the coal burn in tailings dumps to be used as landfill at any place at any time.... who knows where all that lethal by-product will end up then.... and in whose aquifer and whose ground water... Noone seems to care.
I support the enforcement of environmental protection measures 100%, but whose protecting the populations and water supplies of all those people living in and around open cut coal reserves and power stations.
The answer is .... noone.... because the last thing Australia's govt wants is to have to wipe coal from its balance sheet.
I guess if we tested every water hole and aquifer in the land, we'd find lots of strange elements and polutants in low levels for a myriad of different reasons....
Common sense must prevail... and if activists wish to direct their energy into an effective action, it would be to support UCG and put a stop to the monumental destructiona and polution that open cut coal production does to the land of Oz and beyond.
Its a simple case of supporting the better option, rather than keeping the worst option because its comfortable and not in our back yard.
Cheers
