Within a few months there will be no car industry to protect; only the massive profits of multinational car
    manufacturers.

Our Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989/2002 as supervised by FORS prohibits the importation of Japanese
cars which have been marketed in Australia and manufactured after 31st Dec 1988.

Given that we now have no industry to protect and given that we have a Free Trade Agreement with Japan,
then come 2018 we should be allowed to import good quality Japanese family style cars so that working class
Aussies can benefit from our Japan FTA.

It is ridiculous for Toyota and others to argue that late model Japanese cars manufactured in Japan are unsafe
in Australia when these multinationals manufacture these cars and sell them in Japan.

If you are interested in importing a cheap/late model family sedan from Japan @ half the cost of the local equivalent
then you cant but if enough taxpayers petition their local MP, then the Government will have to relent. At present
the multinationals have an undue influence over either Lib or Labor Governments and the only way to counter this is
    by petitioning your local MP.
