Could be that STO would stump up some cash as the sweetener from here on .. so STO dilution would remain low. Yes its a lot more "comfortable" to be where we are at now with ESG's attractiveness confirmed and a higher share price ... so I'm looking forward to events over coming months.
The way BG snapped up QGC and PES over the top of STO and AOE gives me some hope that another bidder (with deeper pockets than STO) may emerge. What else can BG buy? It tried to get ORG and failed. BOW and MPO are possibilities but now that STO has signalled ESG's quality assets by making a bid surely ESG becomes THE stock to acquire?
