hehehe. morph77, the reason, of course, is that the 20000 aussies move to pommieland BECAUSE 20,000 pommies moved into Oz! But a well-studied immigration policy IS needed. I can't tell what's good or bad but I know that a country this size with a population this small is, in the long run unsustainable. Some immigration is needed and whilst the immigrants can cause the prices of housing to increase, land owners can be foreigners, ie, not living in Oz at all. Land was always and it still continues to be, simply another commodity which anyone on the planet can invest in. So we see Big corporations (Landlease etc) investing in our land as if it is another avenue for profit for them. And the local 30-year old worker will have bugger all chance of competing with these thugs. The answer is to put in laws which diminish greatly the ability of foreign entities to "invest" in our land, as well as to make land less attractive for investors and speculators. There are millions of other places where they can play toss-up: make the land immune from that.
