Thank you
@pow4adeIf you study the Mujahedeen movement when Russia was invited by the communist Govt, it was in US's interest to make sure there is continuous conflict. They (US) through CIA supplied weapons including surface to air missiles that were very effective on Russian planes. It does reminds me of the phrase, 'what goes around, comes around'. Currently as I suspected, it is in Russia/China interests to keep Afghanistan stable using cooperation instead of intervention, a policy US has been meddling throughout ME.
Here is a pictorial I though was quite apt.
View attachment 3488333I am not sure how long the current status quo (violence and revenge killing avoidance) can last but so far the Taliban is quite savvy in the PR dept. At least some of the root causes (corruptions) will be very much discouraged and I suspect this is the main reason the Afghan Army completely collapsed, no body will sacrifice their lives fighting an enemy when their leadership is immersed in corruption. Stories out that Ghani fled with cases of cash and had to leave some behind because they could carry it! These conspiracies are for another day.
In a way, the current situation demonstrated by the constant failed US ME policies may actually promote PEACE globally if US will think twice before meddling in other countries because they take the moral high ground. Their brand of freedom/democracy has not worked especially when they follow what their domestic gun lobby likes to tell everyone, fighting more violence with more guns. Oxymoron in their democratic/human right promotions globally.
It will remain to be seen if our region will be where they (Trump/Biden) deliberately tried to pivot completely instead of the distractions of military and financing that is taking a toll by Kabul.
If the Taliban are looking for legitimacy and international funding, they have found 2 strategic partners of Russia/China who are not so much interested in meddling in their domestic affairs but in making sure there is no harbouring of their domestic terrorists as we had experience before US invaded.
However in reality, there are so many spoilers which makes predicting interesting and a fruitless occupation even for amateur interests. The one negative I am already hearing now when those that helped our military have not even been properly aided by our bureaucrats is the chatter of an islamic invasion of our country. We have folks there panic running away from the ideology that wanted to murder them and we have folks here cynical of taking them in, the classic definition of irony?
I am sure more events will unfold for better or worse. We can only hope there is peace there so that no violent ideology are exported.
