Indy, you are missing the point, it's meant to be a decentralised means of generating power. It generates enough power for 2 houses, and it is meant to be hooked up to the grid to feed the extra house worth of power into the system. It wouldn't serve well as an emergency generator, and it's not meant to. 6-8k a year to service doesn't sound right to me, in that they are aiming to bring the initial capital cost DOWN to about 10k per unit. The service cost won't be much more than an annual inspection on a hydronic heating boiler...
