Main differences I can see (only a couple):

Markets: SSN mainly in Shale Oil in the US
Range: In Texas (US), Trinadad, Georgia, Puntland all normal oil wells (texas being fracced from memory)

Share listings:
Range: On ASX and AIM (London)
SSN: On ASX and a US Market as an ADR (Can't remember which market though.

Both have their benefits and issues/risks. I have money in both, but have made more from Range.

I'm sure others can come up with some differences.
