    Its called the 'ratchet effect'. Once something is done, a new tax, a drop in standards, lies told, no matter what it is, there is no going back. There are no refunds in real life, or the real world.

    And it places a great deal of responsibility on politicians to get it right the first time, because they don't get a second chance.

    That's one of the reasons it saddened me so much to see Gillard yelling like a mad woman in parliament, the new low standard she set is now the norm for all politicians, and from there to the community at large. Think about it, anything you can get away with is now ok.

    Look at some of the abusive posters here on HC. I doubt if any of them would address people face to face like that, but anonymously and weakly is quite ok, apparently.
