garryt as that article I posted should explain the price of fuel is government regulated in India as it is in many other third world countries.
The government subsidizes the price making it cheap enough for people to afford to buy.
Without the subsidy those countries might well collapse.
So a comparison with Australia is meaningless, but as far as I can see the fuel prices in Australia are about in the middle range of world prices.
