    ''I wonder what their motivation is?''

    the definition of motivation is something like - why one acts or behaves in a certain way

    if we look at humans all through history -

    if we take our own life experiences in dealing with other humans -

    say hearing the opinion of others for a new business idea --------- what does one normally get --

    mostly - it's the negatives.

    *It'll never work
    * Wrong place
    * Wrong time
    *not enough customers
    *you're gonna do what?

    and the very worst people - are often friends and family (and yes, there are solid psychological reasons for that)

    in the end - mostly the motivation for the nay sayers is simple - they are simply visionless, less than brave, stupid people

    and, they form an opinion first, without any analysis, they in fact have a previously formed opinion in their head prepared earlier for such occasions

    and they bring to the debate a resistance. Never formed or acted out with reference, beyond perhaps 'I knew of a bloke who.........'

    All actual evidence is overlooked. Any risk or disturbance to their 'normal' is to be resisted.

    And there with climate and 'change' comes one thing - it's different, it's a change. It may effect them. The reactions of other may effect them -

    this is bad, this must be resisted. Any debate must be put down. All evidence is to be seen as fake or bad.

    hence - we say 'oh, that business won't work, you better just sit and have a drink with us instead,'

    we do not like change, we resist

    there is no better a resistance from stupid people more than saying 'I don't believe it' and then going out of their way to prove that the others are 'wrong'
