Yes exactly. There's a quote from Orwell that I think is isn't in one of his book but an essay.
"The aim of the tyrant is to destroy the peoples common agreement on facts", I wish I could find the exact quote.
This is why what they are doing is reprehensible, it ultimately makes us all more vulnerable to tyranny as we can see from the the chaos in the world now being caused by disinformation. People are losing trust in any facts and losing touch with reality.
