Probably not as bad as Asian shores, Scoto, but I remember taking a stroll along the east coast of Cape York from Cooktown north to the tip back in the 80's and being appalled by the plastic, thongs (sooo many thongs), fishing gear and other rubbish along the shoreline. Remote country on the extreme edge, so unexpected 40 years ago. A lot worse now I expect.
