"Hydroclimate whiplash – a term for the phenomenon of savage seasonal swings between catastrophic rain and sapping drought...is increasing and fast.". ......... excellent post and point kingy. and the pace of fluctuations between wet and dry is increasing as the intensity is increasing. increasing turbulence from warmer atmosphere is the phenomenon.
our last heatwave, only a few weeks ago, killed off quite a few of my garden plants, including Aus natives, as the air was so dry it simply sucked the moisture out of the plants and soil - even a heavy layer of mulch was unsuccessful at keeping the soil moist. it reminded me of 2019 it dried everything out so fast. fortunately the recent heatwave only lasted a month, and wasn't as severe as it was 5 years ago.
