The coalition has been warned before by business on this issue
Business groups have urged the Coalition not to dump the legislated carbon emissions reduction target for 2030 and unleash a new wave of investor uncertainty, while at the same time cautioning the government that the next target for 2035 must be achievable.
Mr Dutton set the hares running over the weekend when, in an interview with The Australian, he suggested the Coalition would ditch the 2030 target, which is to reduce emissions by 43 per cent on 2005 levels, which it never supported.
He said there was “no sense in signing up to targets you don’t have any prospect of achieving” and that persevering would only put more pressure on energy prices.
