Lordolean was correct as is stated in this item that Gunns can tear up the current agreement(my words)and return to old growth forestry.
As what the auditor will recomend I suggest it would not be the pittance that is touted in the Mercury,I wouldn't,and Gunns has it over Lala and the redundant party she leads.imo

    cheers

Anger at Gunns revealed NICK CLARK | August 18, 2011 01.10pm

PREMIER Lara Giddings says the sale of the Triabunna woodchip mill has caused broad community anger at Gunns Limited.

She made the comments this morning while announcing that a probity auditor would oversee any payment to Gunns for exiting native forest logging.

She said the maximum payment would be $23 million.

"I am very aware that the broader community are feeling quite angry at the moment over the behaviour of Gunns and decisions like the sale of Triabunna," she said.

"I have had many people come up to me and say they do not want to see one single dollar go to Gunns as a result of their behaviour in recent times."

Ms Giddings said legal advice showed that Gunns had voluntarily terminated its contracts with Forestry Tasmania.

"However, their contracts also have residual rights to renegotiate those contracts and that is the element that the Government is keen to resolve," Ms Giddings said.

The Premier said that the probity process would include discussions with Gunns over a sum of more than $25 million that Forestry Tasmania claims it is owed by Gunns.

FT says Gunns gave six month notice to terminate it two major contracts in April.

Managing director Bob Gordon said last month it would not renegotiate the contracts while it was owed such a large amount of money.

Ms Giddings said the Intergovernmental agreement could collapse and that Gunns could go back into native forest if no agreement was found.

Gunns is expected to respond to the announcement today.
