Then you will really appreciate the video ... btw, as a means of engaging numbers, Gore's efforts (or someone elses in his absence) are part of the solution. Without co-ordinated engagement, humans wont mobilise to address climate change issues appropriately and in time.

I do hope you find the time to look at the video later (let me know how you get on). In a nutshell, the speaker (as I remember) sets up a very simple risk matrix something like ...

Action Risks of Climate Change Action/Inaction
    Column A Column B

    Climate change
    due to human
    intervention
    is happening

    Climate change
    due to human
    intervention
    is not
    happening

What he says is that the risk/consequences of taking affirmative action now and subsequently finding out that climate change hasnt been induced by human activity ARE WAY LESS than the risk/consequences of not taking affirmative action now and subsequently finding out climate change has been caused by human activity.

In the first instance, there are even some obvious incidental benefits such as cleaner air, water and soil and possibly reduced consumption of some non renewable resources ... in my business dealings, I have come to realise that being pushed is often a precursor to innovation and unexpectdly good outcomes and that accepting the status quo can be death by 1000 cuts.
