With the outcome being of little mystery anymore (but plenty can happen over 2 days) I'll be interested to see how the non LIBLAB vote goes on Sat. What will the state-of-affair be for our 2 party system? Historical data seems hard to find (yup I just used A.I.), but I offer this as benchmarks
A 2020 report from the Pew Research Center notes that 34% of Australians identify as independent voters, which is a significant increase from previous years.
A 2018 report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics provides data on voter turnout and party affiliation in the 2016 federal election. According to this report, 34.1% of voters did not vote for the Liberal Party or the Labor Party.
A 2019 report from the Australian Electoral Commission shows that the number of voters who did not vote for the Liberal Party or the Labor Party has been increasing over the past 20 years. However, I couldn't find a specific figure for the number of people who don't vote for either party over this period.
