Apologies for the basic question, but I'm super new, and am seeking confirmation of what I am thinking is correct.

opening, am I correct in assuming that the highest buy bids score the lowest sell offers?
For example, if my order is in the 39c group, if i up my price to 42c, will i actually buy the stock cleaper?
