NearMap (NEA) seems to have greater mass appeal. Its solar “what if” tools not only provide exact measurements, angle and latitude of an individual roof, but provide shade calculations across the year, and calculate the average power which could be generated by dozens of different solar makes and models.
As it begins fly-over operations in the US it will arrive in time for the regulatory support following the EPA’s new 30% renewables target. Others may get into the same business, but to replicate the seamless imaging and the over-lays of contours, property values, energy demand per house, demographics and even average wind speeds will take time. Solar installers in Australia use it as a matter of course as it produces a quote in 10 minutes or less and gives the buyer confidence that claims are not sales talk. The system now seamlessly integrates with Google’s satellite view and street view. The relationship with Google can do it no harm...
