The USSR (Russia) and Japan never signed a peace treaty either.

Much has been made of how "backward" North Korea is yet how do those on this forum explain the alleged sinking of a modern, hi-tech South Korean naval vessel by a North Korean submarine.....unless of course it wasn't sunk by a North Korean submarine?

Furthermore how do you explain the ultra-modern nuclear complex recently discovered in North Korea? How is the most isolated and impoverished country in the world able to get the materials, expertise and money it takes to construct and run such a complex...without outside help from "significant others"?

Incidentally, Sunday shapes as the next potential major flashpoint with the US and South Korean navies staging war games in the Yellow Sea with the aircraft carrier USS George Washington and eight destroyers participating. It will be very interesting to see how China reacts to this as there is no doubt that the Chinese, not only the North Koreans, will see this as a provocation in their own backyard.

This story has a long way to play out yet and if it continues long enough then we have the unnerving prospect of Chinese* and US aircraft carriers and strike groups facing off in the Yellow Sea.

(*The Chinese might not have any aircraft carriers right now but they are building them and it is only a matter of time until we see them in operation)
