What I am thinking is that when we talk about North Korea we talk about China.
North Korea is the puppet and China is the puppeteer.
North Korea plays a critical role in China's foreign policy ambitions in East Asia and China will provide them with as much support in every sense of the word they can until such time as they don't need them anymore.
Read "anymore" as being the time when China doesn't need any distractions to divert US, South Korean and Japanese attention away from them and can deal with them directly out in the open and from an even stronger position than the one they are already in.
