One of the many uses of the desal plant is to supply H2O to Olympic Dam.
BHP are willing to go on the hook for $100 m if the feasibility money is spent and they elect not to proceed.
It's quite an undertaking where the cost was $2.3 billion in 2010 to construct a similar sized plant for Sydney.
Current estimated cost therefore using construction index figures for the present time is +37 % as at 2023
In my opinion there is no need to cross fingers.
