Leaving aside this attack, there seems little doubt, whether here or US or elswhere that politics has become more polarised than ever and views very vigourously held and expounded.

That's not unusual in the circumstances. Tough times means vigourous and even fervent action.

When all is fine and we are all comfortable, it is hard to inspire people to anything.

When our comfort zone is threatened, perceived or actual, then we are more inclined to act.

That applies to all area. We note on the XJO thread that passions get highest when the pocket is being hurt OR we are at pivot points.

Revolution never comes in good times. It comes when many perceive their way of life threatened or disenfranchisement or impoverishment.

And fair enough.
