I think it is the recognition that politics has become more polarised (as noted by Voltaire in his post). This is disturbing and increases the risk of such events, even if by extremists. I personally do not see that warning against such extremism could be considered political point scoring. Just as stronger gun laws were a response to the Bryant massacre in Tasmania, one would hope that some moderation of political rhetoric might result as a response to the Norwegian massacre.
