Australia has some very good gun laws. If you have a good reason to own one you can get one assuming you don't have a history of mental illness or a criminal record. Fortunately, to save the neighbourhood in the odd case there is a nutter walking around is not a good reason.Neither is " I might kill myself if something bad is happening to me". ( Kenneth, no offence but if something bad is happening the first thing you should do is talk to friends ). Been there myself during the custody battle. Definately not a good time to own a gun.
By all means, if you have a good reason have one but I wouldn't want a gun in every second house in my suburb.
