Zafurikast was being developed as an inhaled product by Zeneca (now AstraZeneca). They had some very encouraging trial results but were using flouocarbons as a propellant. When these were banned over the hole in the ozone layer hype, they ceased the development as they could not find another suitable propellant. We don't seem to have heard of the progress with the inhaled programme and if IVX have solved the propellant problem. If they have, this will be a block buster drug. It has some side effects, but inhaled delivery will allow something like one hundredth of the previous dose, so side effects will not be an issue. The current competitor is cortisosteroids which are to be avoided if possible. As to Cpn10, it has been hypothesised as one of five RAMPs to down ramp all auto immune conditions. A company in the UK has raised considerable funds to start work on one of the other RAMPs from scratch. IVX is at least five years ahead. They just lack funds to advance this project as it should be financed.
