Per dose, at full retail price, Axiron is about double the cost of androgel. Accordingly, the big insurers are more likely to target Axiron for rebates than Androgel.
That said, Axiron is a superior and safer product, so it should always be priced at a premium to Androgel. This fall in sales could have more to do with cost cutting at the big insurers than it has to do with the FDA labelling.
