Xstrata's Wandoan thermal coal project would be producing 22 million tonnes a year.
That is probably the biggest coal mine in the Southern Hemisphere.
I think a delay would be in Xstrata's interest to bring down their capex bill and seek Labour reforms.
QLD Government would have to be tossing some incentive or concession their way, as royalty to Government coffers would be $180mil pa based on thermal price of $110/t.
Game of being interested and disinterested at the same time. The more we hear of miners being laid off and mine expansion being deferred and projects not proceeding, ultimately favours Xstrata gamesmanship.
