Also to put into prospective LawrenceH , VW still has no guaranteed battery supply for Europe , the recent $45 billion order that has been reported is purely for Chinese use . Now lets estimate how many cars they bought batteries for . The aprox price per KWH at moment is aprox $200 and the average battery will have aprox 40KWH . Therefor $45 billion divide by $200 divide by 40 = 5,625,000 cars . In a recent article :
In May, VW received green light from the government to set up a joint venture with the state owned Chinese automaker to make electric cars. The Wolfsburg, Germany-based company sold 2.5 million vehicles in China in the first 10 months. VW has previously said it plans to sell 400,000 units of new-energy vehicles a year by 2020 and increase that number to 1.5 million by 2025.
Ok from that we can conclude 2020 year 400,000 vehicles , 2021 year 625,000 vehicles , 2022 year 850,000 vehicles , 2023 year 1,075,000 vehicles , 2024 year 1,300,000 vehicles and in 2025 year 1,525,000 vehicles . So if you add these years together that is a total of 5,775,000 vehicles over the ensuing years which is aprox equivalent to the purchase order just placed with the battery manufacturers in China . Ps I am out by 150,000 EV's
