I have been around for just a bit longer and have also toured the mine back some 8-10 years ago - yes the open pit with its almost vertical walls is quite the sight !
If you have been past regularly over the past year or two you should have noticed a few drill rigs set up on the North/ Eastern side of the pit.

If you weren't already aware, they are planning an underground operation to access the previously mined lodes that remain open at depth and along strike.

There is plenty of info' on the HGO website to get you up to speed on recent goals and progress.
