"but it has scored a direct hit on Ramallah with its humiliating revelations about the lengths to which the Palestinian leadership was prepared to go to secure a peace deal with Israel."

Abbas would have sold his grandmother to secure a peace deal....for his own gratification, not in the interests of his people. The bulldozing of Palestinian dwellings continue daily....generally on the grounds that the occupier has no Israeli building permit...the poor sods built the house before Israel existed. Abbas is an "Uncle Tom" and has sold his people out for concessions. The democratically elected Govt of Palestine, elected unanimously, was Hamas, whom nobody that counts ( read Israel & the US) would recognise.
Hamas would not consider peace for one second if it meant compromise of their boundaries, and thus stands branded a terrorist organisation.
Pity Arafat didnt accept the deal offered by Barak and Clinton, with a return to '67 boundaries. He held out for the "right of return" of the previously displaced Palestinians, which I concede was not practical. He made a big mistake there.
Now, there will never be peace.
