WHen the Romans sacked the Jewish temple in 70 AD and expelled all the Jews out of Israel, they called the region Palestine. From that point the region was under the protectorate/ or mandate of one empire or another. After the Romans, I think it was the Byzantian empire, then The Turks, then the British.

Palestine was basically a wasteland, with no infrastructure, no agricultural, no economy- nothing. It was occupied by nomads. You'd find that most of the Palestinians today's parents were born in the surrounding countries.

WHen the Jews came to Israel thy created infrastructure and and an economy from farming. More and more Jews arrived under the British nation and the Arabs, particularly the ones already living in Palestine took objection to this and tensions and hostilities between the Arabs increased. The British were caught in the middle because they were in the region to protect their own interests in Oil, and politically it was best for them to stay on the side of the Arabs. Hence they severely restricted quotas of Jews trying to escape the Holocaust by coming to Palestine.

When the British finally decided they didn't want to be there anymore and handed over the mandate to the United Nations, the Jews decided to declare an independent state, which was legally approved by the United Nations and so Israel was born. The arabs living in Israel knew Israel was going to be attacked by its neighbours and expected it to be obliterated. They therefore left there homes to live in places like Jordan, Lebanon and Syria during the war. However, Israel won the war, which is called the War of Independence and the arabs who'd left their homes were effectively displaced and now refugees.

    These are the facts.
