I'd agree Snacks.
Short term traders by definition are able to buy into more risk. This leads to them looking for bargains, and in effect finding a holding ground for the SP - many with a longer term view have either bought up before extreme weakness or do not like the risk profile of falling stocks.
Traders in this sense, whilst some may push the SP lower, are the ones holding up the share price from going even lower in a lot of cases.
We are all after the same thing - it's just that traders work on compressed timeframes...
