re: to seals just a quick chat great point re TA believers. one of the beauties about TA is how right a system can be in hindsight!

like you I do find concepts like Elliott waves and Fibonacci (which i know even less) to be very appealing. I think it is because of their ability to find order in chaos as you say.

I read an interesting comment recently (I can't recall where) which stated that modern science shows that the human brain has an innate tendency to look for order and pattern. It then seeks to apply that (eg in trading or gambling) and when the pattern confirms dopamine is released which gives a sense of well being. If the pattern then starts to collapse other hormones are released that trigger anxiety and the flight type response which can lead to chasing losses until the pattern is reestablished (or it's all gone).

Because I recognise this in myself I try to stick to companies that I can find a good fundamental reason to be involved with - something that minimises the emotional power. (i don't ever seem to get fully detached emotionally, nor does it stop me taking risks but it gives me a greater chance of controlling my weaknesses).
