I have difficulty imagining these devastating fires. It hasn't rained here since early April and while that is unusually dry, it is still pretty normal. So there is never a fuel load once it is hot. I have never seen anything other than a grass fire that you could piss on and put out.
I was shocked with one fire in Vic, Black whatever, where people died on the Geelong highway. I had been posted to Laverton and knew the road and still have no idea how a fire could be that intense.
Better the devil you know, and cyclones don't scare me that much.
